At the heart of Scouting lies the life-long promise that we’ll prepare young people for the future and give them the skills for life they need to succeed.
As a charity, donations and legacies enable us to transform lives for the better and make a genuine difference in our community.
You can make a gift by contacting us or you can make a regular donation through your Workplace Giving Scheme.
Donations and legacies Q&A
What does the money get spent on?
Donations are used to support our most disadvantaged young people take part in whole range of activities; to buy new equipment the group can use to help deliver skills for life; to continue to develop our hut and its work in the community; and to train and support our leaders! There’s a massive amount as a group we do with people’s donations.
Do you accept through “Give As You Earn”?
Through “Give As You Earn” schemes at work, you can help support our mission whilst also reducing your tax bill as the donation is taken before tax is calculated. For example, if you’re a 20% taxpayer, 80% of your donation will come from your salary and 20% will come from tax that would have gone to HMRC. This means your tax is calculated on a lower amount, which could change your tax bracket and lower the amount of tax you pay. To find us on your Give As You Earn scheme, please search for “1st Lym Valley Scout Group”.
Can I specify where my money goes?
Absolutely – we are happy for you to specify where your money is spent.
Do you accept equipment such as tents or boats?
We assess any offers of equipment on a donation by donation basis, with a focus on ensuring we have a need for the equipment and the condition of the equipment.
Can I ask about your governance structure?
We are a registered charity with trustees who help scrutinise and support our Group Leadership Team. We are governed under rules set out by the Scout Association, under Policy, Organisation, and Rules (POR). Every year our financial accounts have to be scrutineered by an independent third party before being submitted to the charity commission.
