Christmas Tree Collection – Lyme Regis and Uplyme

Christmas Tree Collection

Explorers carrying Christmas Trees ready to be recycled

Powder Monkeys ESSU will be collecting real Christmas Trees again on January 10th 2026 to help raise funds for the unit. For a minimum donation of £5 per tree (with many choosing to give more): we can come and collect your tree if you live in the DT7 area – Lyme Regis and Uplyme – and recycle it for you. If you have any questions at all, hopefully we’ll answer them in the quick Q&A below. If you would like to find out more about 1st Lym Valley Scout Group, please have a look around the website; for the Powder Monkeys, you can find information here.

Quick FAQ

What will you do with the trees?

Most of the trees will be chipped and composted down, though some will be used for firewood by the Scouts and Explorers.

Can you collect more than one tree?

Absolutely! Just let us know on the form.

We have a holiday letting business/hotel/B&B etc., are we allowed to use this service?

Absolutely! We’d be happy to help. If you have a large number of trees (four or more) please contact us in advance so we can ensure we’re able to take your trees away before agreeing to anything.

What changes have you made for tree collection this year?

The Explorers will be helping, alongside adult volunteers to ensure that the Christmas Trees get collected once again.

Please ensure your tree is ready for collection from 8.30am.  Our collection routes will be planned to be as efficient as possible. As was the case in the previous couple of years, you will not need to be at home for us to collect your tree.

Do I need to do anything to my real tree before you can take it?

Please ensure all decorations are removed – we are unable to take away trees that are still decorated.

What does the donation go towards?

All proceeds will go towards Powder Monkeys ESSU who are continuing to support over 30 local young people develop the skills for life they need to go out into the world.

This year, the Explorers are working towards their Community Impact badge and a proportion of the funds raised will be split between the causes that they are supporting – The Lyme Regis Christmas Lunch Fund and The Contented Dementia Trust.

How do you wish to be paid?

By Cash or Cheque on the day (cheques payable to “1st Lym Valley Scout Group – Explorers”) – payments can be left discreetly in an envelope attached to the tree. BACS payments are also possible on request.

Can you collect beyond the DT7 Postcode area?

Sadly we’re unable to do so because of capacity.

Are you able to collect on any other date?

Sadly not, our volunteers and young people lead very busy lives and we’re very lucky to have nabbed them on Saturday 10th January.

Do you have a Waste Carrier Licence?

Yes, our registration number is CBDL507911
