Christmas Tree Collection – Lyme Regis and Uplyme

Christmas Tree Collection

Explorers carrying Christmas Trees ready to be recycled

Thank you for an amazing 2024 – if you want your tree collected in 2025, join our mailing list here!

Information below is from the collection in 2024, it has been left up so you know what to roughly expect in 2025!

The Powder Monkeys ESSU will be collecting real Christmas Trees on Saturday 6th January 2024 to help raise funds for the unit, following their success last year collecting over 100 trees. For a minimum donation of £5 per tree (with many choosing to give more): we can come and collect your tree if you live in the DT7 area – Lyme Regis and Uplyme – and recycle it for you. If you have any questions at all, hopefully we’ll answer them in the quick Q&A below. If you would like to find out more about the Powder Monkeys, you can find information here.

Quick FAQ

What will you do with the trees?

Most of the trees will be chipped and composted down, though some will be used for firewood by the Explorers.

Can you collect more than one tree?

Absolutely! Just let us know on the form.

We have a holiday letting business/hotel/B&B etc., are we allowed to use this service?

Absolutely! We’d be happy to help. If you have a large number of trees (four or more) please contact us in advance so we can ensure we’re able to take your trees away before agreeing to anything.

What changes have you made for tree collection this year?

You’ll now have a choice of an AM (From 8am) or PM (From Midday) slot – our Explorers will be starting earlier this year in order to collect trees as promptly as possible. As was the case in the previous couple of years, you will not need to be at home for us to collect your tree!

Do I need to do anything to my real tree before you can take it?

Please ensure all decorations are removed – we are unable to take away trees that are still decorated

What does the donation go towards?

All proceeds go towards the Powder Monkeys Explorer Sea Scout Unit, who are fundraising to put the money towards their activities and new equipment for the unit. The unit was formed in 2020 and, now with over 25 young people, they look forward to continuing going from strength to strength.

How do you wish to be paid?

By Cash or Cheque on the day – cheques payable to “1st Lym Valley Scout Group” – payments can be left discreetly in an envelope attached to the tree. BACS payments are possible on request.

Can you collect beyond the DT7 Postcode area?

Sadly we’re unable to do so because of capacity.

Are you able to collect on any other date?

Sadly not, our volunteers and young people lead very busy lives and we’re very lucky to have nabbed them on Saturday 6th January.

Do you have a Waste Carrier Licence?

Yes, our registration number is CBDL507911

Put your phone down and what are you left with? Just teamwork, courage and the skills to succeed.’
